The most interesting and exciting exhibitions in town
Stara Zagora started to turn towards the arts after the Liberation of Bulgaria. The city understood the need of presentation and promotion of the good examples in art.
It comes as no surprise that the city started gradually to become one of the cultural centers in the country. This is due to a large extent to the city's inhabitants' enthusiasm and love for the arts. Another contributing factor is the fact that some of the most famous Bulgarian painters were born in Stara Zagora.
As early as the beginning of 20th century the artistic elite of the city realized the need to not only exhibit but also preserve the works of their colleagues. This prompted the collection process of the Art Gallery of Stara Zagora, which accumulated works by some of the most interesting Bulgarian artists.
Today the Gallery's collection includes more than 4 000 art works. They are divided in six departments: 'painting'; 'printmaking'; 'sculpture; 'iconography'; 'Revival engravings'; 'applied arts.' The visitors will discover among them the amazing works by artists belonging to the Bulgarian art of the last two centuries.
