Since its establishment, the Opera in Stara Zagora has welcomed on its stage the biggest names in the sphere of Bulgarian opera. The Opera has gone through many transformations and it continues to develop. Its current repertoire is rich in classical titles, children's operas and symphony concerts.
The Opera's history started at the end of 19th century almost as a joke. Theater aficionados and amateur singing ensembles united in order to create something together. As a result, the first opera performance in Stara Zagora was born. The inhabitants of Stara Zagora quickly manifested their curiosity and loved the new performances of their fellow citizens. This laid the foundation for the Opera's vertiginous growth and it quickly became a main opera center in the entire South region of Bulgaria.
Throughout the years its repertoire has grown and more and more renowned names come to perform on its stage; the Stara Zagora opera performances themselves are invited regularly on stages all over the country.
