The Neolithic dwellings are one of the mandatory stops for tourists in Stara Zagora. The museum takes its visitors back in time more than eight thousand years. It tells stories and shows artifacts related to the daily life and the faith of the local prehistoric settlers.
You can find the most well preserved house in Europe dating 6 000 years B.C. at the Neolithic Dwellings Museum. The building is seven meters high and it is constructed with poles driven into the ground interlaced with wooden sticks. It was covered in a mixture of mud and straws. Three families lived in the house and left behind them furnaces, granaries, manual grinders and pottery covered with various designs.
The dwellers' votive altars are well preserved and they testify to the prehistoric people's rites and worship rituals. The representations of their gods were ceramic columns whose tops were ramified resembling the horns of a bull.
